Color Me Styled - All I Want for Christmas

Every year around October I begin to think of what to get others for Christmas.  Our families are big on lists but I always try to find something "off-list" to give.

Since most of my gift list ideas will include some of those surprises I'm hesitant to share what I'd recommend you get for your friends and family.  So, I've decided to share my Christmas wishlist!

Color Me Styled - Accessorize This!

So I'm going to a wedding this weekend and instead of wearing any of the perfectly suitable dresses I already own I bought this beauty that I've been eyeing for a while.

Color Me Trendy - Wear Your Food

Tea Cup Style from Gap & Fruit Salad Shift from Anthropologie

Mom said not to play with your food and your trainer says that you are what you eat but your style guru tells you to wear your food*!

We went out browsing this weekend (not much real shopping until after the SELF Drop10 challenge is complete) and noticed a lot of delicious pieces on display.

Gap has a collection of printed boyfriend button downs our favorite is this Tea Cup (or Cappuccino) print. The styling with a bright poppy blazer and cropped jeans is spot on for spring temperatures... whatever those are!

Anthropologie has the Fruit Stand Shift by Dusen Dusen and nothing reminds us of summer than fresh fruit.

J.Crew has a pear sweater and a watermelon necklace in the crew cuts section.

Give these kitchen prints a try for your next coffee, lunch or brunch date!

*Not literally... clean clothes are a must.

Color Me Styled - Mixed Print Blues

Collared Shirt: Banana Republic (similar) | Topshirt: J.Crew (similar) | Jeans: Anthroplogie (similar) | Shoes: TOMS

"Now you know how Kate Upton felt."

Luckily I had more on than swimsuits (or less) but I braved the frigid temps on Wednesday (the "First Day of Spring") to snap this Outfit of the Day (OOTD). But I owe the shot to Danny who also braved the cold to capture it. We took a couple and this one didn't have the best lighting, but I looked the thinnest. Vanity wins.

Anyways, I love this outfit of mixed prints and mixed shades of blue. It is tough to tell in this picture but the pants are grey with little white polka dots and the blue in the striped shirt look weathered which adds a fun vintage feel. The collared shirt is your standard oxford and the shoes are trusty canvas TOMS.

I polished up the, already preppy, outfit with a strand of oversized pearls and sapphire and silver posts. Hair is in a messy topknot for a couple of reasons. First, it allowed me to easily wear my winter headband to keep my ears warm and secondly it was windy as all get up so I would have had a chaotic hair situation without the updo.

This look can be modified in many ways (different colors, patterned collared shirt and a solid top shirt, or try patterns on both shirts) but the keys are to wear a 3/4 length or long sleeved top shirt and make sure whatever pieces you mix together have something in common. The easiest (and foolproof-est) is color; like my blue shades or with a solid picking up a color in a floral shirt.

If you feel like a kaleidoscope maybe take a second look at what you've mixed together... unless that's the look you're going for!

Color Me Styled - Three Piece Suit

Diane Von Furstenburg | Crystal Tweed Jacket
So if we ignore the model's awkward stance let us all agree that this DVF Crystal Tweed Jacket is to die for. A wardrobe staple of mine is what I call the "Three Piece Suit" basically meaning pants or skirt, T shirt and blazer.

It is my uniform.

I am always on the lookout for new blazers to add to my closet and right now I am on the hunt for a "fancy" one. Something with some pizzaz that can be the statement piece of the outfit.

It just is lucky I guess that flight prices drop from Chicago to NYC around my birthday and for the last couple of years we have managed to book a trip. We head to NYC in a few weeks and I am already outfit planning.

Can you blame me?

My travel outfit on Friday will be leggings, chambray shirt and a blazer. Lined up for Saturday skinny jeans, tank and cardigan. Sunday is the day I have open as far as outfits are concerned. And Monday we travel home and go straight to work so I'll sport a suit dress and blazer.

One of these lovely Anthropologie blazers will find a home in my closet and be the centerpiece of my Sunday outfit!

Do you have a favorite?

Color Me Styled - Christmas Gift Guide for the Lady Friend

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

I know that there have been a few posts about Christmas cookies already (Christmas Confetti Cookies and Peppermint Nutella Crinkle Cookies) but now we've got the Christmas banner (thanks Liz!!) and today is our first gift guide post.

Buying for that lady friend in your life could go in a million different directions. When I am buying for a friend I try to combine the things she "needs" with what she "wants". So, if she needs a new iPhone case... I get her one or two from Kate Spade.

Chit Chat | Polka Dots | Hello | Live Colorfully
Exclamation! | #TalkIsCheap | #PopFizzClink | OMG That's Hilarious

Or... if she isn't an iPhone junkie and still uses a BlackBerry or is a Google fanatic and operating on Android devices she would appreciate one of the Kate Spade sleeves. I mean, you can never go wrong with Glitter.

If your friend is more of a pen and paper gal... you can't go wrong with a Russel + Hazel SmartDate system calendar.

Or if she is more likely to enjoy something pretty hanging on her wall, the Inslee By Design 2013 calendar is a lovely addition to any perfectly appointed wall.

Is your gal pal a coffee addict? Perpetuate the habit with these delightful mugs. Pick up a bag of gourmet beans too and you've got a great gift set going! Add in a 2-4 cup French Press and you've hooked her up for life!

Charity Mugs from West Elm
If she's more of a monogram gal... the Homegrown Monogram Mug from Anthropologie is a sure hit!

I think the most important part about giving gifts is that you remember why you are doing it! Be thoughtful and go the extra mile to complete the thought. (Like buying the coffee to go in the mugs, or the hot chocolate. Or if you're buying for a baker, buy the cake stand and the cake pans that fit it.)

I'm a great gift consultant... I really work towards giving the perfect gifts each year! If you are stuck on what to give a special someone let me know. I respond quickly to email, twitter and facebook messages! Or... better yet... leave comments below and I'll comment too and then everyone can be inspired!
