Color Me Styled - Mixing Prints How-To

You've heard it all spring, summer and you'll hear it this fall; mixed prints are big!

You might think that mixing prints takes some superhuman style skills but we'll assure that it doesn't. There are three keys to getting the look just right.

  • Stick to one color pallet. If you are mixing prints you want to use the same color pallet to tie the look together.
  • Stick to similar shapes. In the picture above, Erin mixed a striped top with a woven bottom but both prints rely on straight lines. Another option would be to mix polka-dots with floral because they are both round prints.
  • Don't be afraid of a print on the bottom. Mixing prints will actually help to downplay your bottom half because you're giving a head-to-toe interesting picture.
If you're nervous try mixing a printed handbag with a printed top to get used to the concept.
