Color Me Jetset - Long Weekend Packing Tips

Everyone looks forward to a weekend get-a-way but packing for the trip can be downright stressful. The good news is that it doesn't have to be!

The first thing you need to do is have an idea of your itinerary for the trip. Are you on a beach? At the mountains? The city? The country? Are you eating out? Cooking at a house? Will you be walking? Taking taxis? Will it be hot? Cold? Hot and Cold? Rainy? Sunny? Windy?

Regardless of how you answer these questions there are a few guiding principals for your packing list. Stick to neutrals that you know you'll be able to mix and match. If you are gone for a three day trip pack at least 4 tops and 2 bottoms. The shoes you pack should be well worn in; any vacation is not the time to break in new shoes. A light jacket and scarf are key.

If you are flying all of this should fit into a carry on bag. Bring mini sized shampoo and conditioner and invest in quality facial cleansing wipes instead of your normal skincare routine (a few days won't destroy your skin). Most of your make-up doesn't count as a liquid / gel so pack it separately. And, deodorant doesn't count either!

Don't forget that the outfit you wear to travel also counts as an outfit. So wear your biggest stuff that day. Like your coat, a sweater or any boots you will need for your trip.

Security at the airport is easier if you keep your 3-1-1 bag in your purse or laptop bag. Then once you are through security you can tuck it away in your luggage for the rest of the trip.

Our secret for vacation style? Accessories. Jewelry takes up almost no space at all and can make the same grey t-shirt look totally different depending on the way it is accessorized. Long necklace layers while your hair is down for dinner and then with big earrings and a top knot for taking in the sites around town. Keep each piece in its own little bag to keep them from getting tangled. And, again to make security easier, don't wear any until you're through!

Where are you off to next? Take these packing tips and have a great time!
