Color Me Bonita - BB Cream

Mother always said "there's no such thing as a stupid question" so... we ask. Today we have our inaugural guest post by Daniela, our skin care expert.
Our first question?

BB Cream – what is it, should I buy it ?

BB Creams

And here is her answer:

I’m an Acne Specialist.  I own a skin care salon called Daniela’s Facial Studio, where I spend hours scouring the Internet for ingredient lists on products my clients have used in their attempts at controlling their acne.

I’m also a makeup artist.  If anyone can appreciate a smooth, even application of foundation, it’s me!  So when I heard there was a single type of product that was supposed to address every skin issue, I was intrigued.

The BB in BB Cream stands for Beauty Balm.  It even has a Wikipedia entry, if you can believe it:  “Originally formulated in Germany by dermatologist Dr. Christine Schrammek in the 1950s, the cream was initially used to protect skin after laser procedures and surgery, while also providing light coverage. Introduced to South Korea and Japan in the 1980s, BB cream has been named "the secret of Korean actresses."

Wow!  So, why the fuss now?

Today’s consumer now knows enough to demand what we’ve been promised has finally been made possible – clearer pores, even color, sun protection and smoothness.  In essence, BB Cream actually is tinted moisturizer, sunscreen and foundation primer, all in one!

Are all BB Creams the same?  As foundation primer, they all have silicones and cross-polymers that foundation glides over for skin that has texture issues (be aware, primers can make oily skin uncomfortable).  They all have SPF.  They’re all tinted.  They all have emollients, which can be a bad or good thing, depending on your skin type.  Some even have anti-inflammatory ingredients.

Bottom line: it’s worth trying if you believe you have issues that BB Creams will address.  If you’re concerned about breakouts, there are two brands that could be problematic. I love to give custom skincare advice so please email me for more info.

Thanks Daniela!!
Interested in giving BB Creams a try? There are a variety of products on the market and it is totally the current beauty buzzword. The average price is about $35 but there are drugstore brands for an average of $9 and fancy-pants high end for $65 and up.
