Color Me Trendy - Ombre Nails

Not only is Nail Art a huge trend this year, everyone on Pinterest seems to pull off the perfect look all on their own. Nowhere in the instructions does it say "have a friend paint it for your because your left hand won't be able to draw a straight line."

So, we stuck with the easier trick of Ombre.

Birchbox posted a great way to do it with mixing in a drop of white nail polish into any other color to get the effect. For us, we used a bright pink and a pale pink.

Your pinky and thumb will have pure colors (you can pick which ones is darker, but we like the thumb) and then your index, middle and ring fingers will have the mixed shades. We used a 99 cent make-up brush to mix and paint.
(TIPS: start with the lightest shade and prep by pulling out loose brush hairs before you start to mix and paint your nails)

Now, put yourself back into kindergarten art class and mix up your colors.
  • Thumb - darkest color - two coats
  • Index (Pointer) - 2 drops of darkest color + 1 drop of light - two coats
  • Middle - 2 drops of darkest color + 2 drops of light color - two coats
  • Ring - 1 drop of darkest color + 2 drops of light color - two coats
  • Pinky - lightest color - two coats
Always finish with a top coat!

This looks best (as does most colored nails) with short, round nails. Cut them short and use a file to round them out. If you get a bit on your cuticles, just wait about 12 hours and it will peel off really easily. Instead of trying to mess with Q-Tips and remover.

And yes, the used cotton balls are resting on an ICEE Pop wrapper.
